The Domain Name Service (DNS) assigns the correct IP addresses to the requested domain name, so that any web site can be accessed by entering its name in letters and not as an IP address. The IP address of the server that offers DNS can be specified dynamically by activating the radio button Dynamically by Provider and will then be set automatically whenever a connection to the Internet is established. If you want to use the same DNS server every time, the radio button Fixed Nameserver Address has to be activated and the corresponding IP address has to be entered. Sometimes the ISP want you to use a certain DNS server and will indicate the IP address you have to enter.
The IP address of another external name server has to be entered into the Alternative Nameserver text field. This alternative name server will be used if the main name server cannot be accessed.
Note: Quadro can serve as a DNS server for the systems connected to its LAN. In this case, it is not necessary to reconfigure every station within the LAN if the the provider's DNS server changes.
The IP-Clipboard buttons offer a convenient possibility to enter IP addresses that have been used before.
