The Uplink Configuration page allows to select the QX200's WAN interface connection type and bandwidth settings. These settings make QX200 available to the external network.
The WAN Interface Protocol radio buttons are used to choose the protocol depending on the requirements of the ISP (Internet Service Provider):
In the WAN Interface Bandwidth area the provided bandwidth must be specified in kbit/s - above all to assure the quality of IP calls. If the available bandwidth is almost used to capacity, another IP call would impact the quality of the other calls. When approaching the limits of bandwidth capacity, another IP call will be declined with the message "Not enough bandwidth available".
The provided bandwidth has to be specified both in the text fields Upstream Speed and Downstream Speed. The default entry in both fields is 10000, the maximum bandwidth of the 10 MB uplink module. In most cases, providers offer a smaller bandwidth than 10000 kbit/s.
The text field Min Data Rate allows to specify the amount or upstream bandwidth that will remain in any case for data applications, even if voice applications use the whole bandwidth specified in the text field Upstream Bandwidth. The value entered here has to be smaller that the value specified in Upstream Bandwidth - between 0 and the bandwidth that is needed by the number of parallel voice calls that shall be guaranteed. To give you an impression of the needed bandwidth for an IP call depending on the used codecs see the corresponding table.
